October is Museums and Galleries Month!
History should not repeat itself and should always be remembered. Museums and galleries serve as the home of memories that will narrate stories and events from the past. They are a dedicated space for the works of many artists, inventions of our scientists, discoveries and findings of archeologists, and specimens such as fossils and artifacts from antiquity.
In our country, the University of Santo Tomas Museum was considered the oldest existing museum in the Philippines, was formally established in 1869, to comply with the 1865 Reglamento de Segunda Ensenanza that required all first-class colleges to have a Museo de Historia Natural. Initially located in Intramuros, the UST Museum was later transferred to its present site at the paraninfo of the UST Main Building, built in 1928 in the Sampaloc district of Manila.
Moreover, The Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management (ICCEM) of Central Luzon State University also has a museum. A natural history and biodiversity museum dedicated to different ecosystems in the Philippines. In celebration of #MGM2022, the institute will re-launch the newly renovated The ICCEM Museum (TIM) in the 4th quarter of 2022.
This year' #MGM2022 theme "Embracing Uncertainty: Showcasing Solidarity, Hope, and Recovery" honors the resilience and resourcefulness of the Filipino in overcoming the global pandemic as it moves forward to a new normal.

ICCEM workforce takes part in the movement for a cleaner planet today, September 30, 2022.
Faculty and staff join forces in clearing up the ICCEM Conservation Park, BINHI Conservation Park, and other facilities in the office in celebration of the World Cleanup Day.
Each year the World Cleanup Day unifies millions of people from different walks of life. Volunteers, organizations, and governments from across 191 countries in the world work hand in hand through cleanup drives, in order to address waste problem, to achieve a sustainable world. With this endeavor, ICCEM invites everyone to join with the movement every year so that each of us can contribute to a cleaner planet. Let us make a move today, pick up a trash on your way!

Five faculty members of the university participated in two short-term courses co-sponsored by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and its partner universities during the third quarter of the year.
Four of them completed the International Summer Course Program on Agriculture and Ecosystem Resilience to Environmental Disaster Toward Regional Sustainability on September 11 to 20 which was hosted by the IPB University in Bogor, Indonesia.
Engr. Eliza E. Camaso (College of Engineering), Engr. Lea S. Caguiat (Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management), Mr. Daryl A. Juganas (Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management), and Jarius Jesse M. Tubal (College of Agriculture) finished the program which included a combination of lectures about environmental conservation and management; GIS and remote-sensing and the biophysical and socio-cultural dimensions of climate change adaptation as well as on-site observation and evaluation of different types of agro-ecosystems .
The team also got a chance to present their research projects: “Adaptation Strategies for Resiliency and Disaster Risk Management in Selected Coastal Municipalities of Zambales, Philippines” (Mr. Juganas), “Spatial and temporal trend analysis of reference evapotranspiration in Central Luzon, Philippines” (Engr. Caguiat), “Vulnerability Assessment of Agricultural Resources in Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija, Philippines” (Engr. Camaso) and “Impacts of Climate Change on the Tilapia Value Chain from Cage Culture in Luzon, Philippines” (Mr. Tubal). Engr. Lea Caguiat won the best poster award while Mr. Tubal bagged the second best oral presenter.
The participation of the four faculty members were made possible through the Leveling-Up Philippine Higher Education Institutions in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Resources (LevelUPHEI AFAR) Project under the International Continuing Professional Education (ICPE) Grants of CHED.
In the previous month, Ms. Jane Camille A. Crisostomo of the College of Agriculture flew to Putrajaya, Malaysia to attend the three-day training workshop on halal slaughtering and certification on August 23-25, 2022.
The training workshop co-sponsored by SEARCA and the Universiti Putra Malaysia - Halal Products Research Institute aims to further enhance the capacities of Halal professionals, practitioners, policymakers, and other key players and stakeholders on Halal slaughtering and certification to support the development of the Halal industry in their respective countries and the ASEAN region.
Ms. Crisostomo’s participation was made possible with the SEARCA University Consortium Faculty Grant.

Project SAFE team conducted a seminar on biodiversity conservation and phytoremediation technology in September 2022 at Istana Resort, Brgy. Uacon, Candelaria, Zambales
The seminar aimed to raise public awareness and knowledge on some environmental issues and to seek support on the protection and conservation of the environment.
Mr. Daryl Juganas and Dr. Gella Patria Abellla imparted the knowledge about biodiversity conservation on forest ecosystem and agroecosystem. Meanwhile, Ms. Marietta Valera discussed the emerging phytoremediation technology which involves the use of plants to clean up soil, air and water.
The seminar was concluded by a policy forum. Participants raised their issues and concerns on agriculture, namely, pest infestation, dwindling water supply and soil infertility due to clearing of forest and mining activities. They also gave their recommendations.
This was actively participated by farmers and local communities, Mr. Rey A. Estella, Chairman of Uacon Labnoy Farmers Asociation was also present in the said activity.

As part of the SAFE GRS FOSCHE program, the project team composed of Mr. Carl Dionelle B. Ponce and Ms. Mary Angella D. Tolentino visited selected schools in Zambales, particularly in Subic and Iba last September 20 and 21, 2022 for the turning over of reading materials.
Three selected schools in Zambales were among the recipient of promotional materials that includes a book and posters on climate change, environmental conservation and protection, LiDAR technology, and phytoremediation.
The project team was welcomed by the school heads of Subic Central School, Dr. Aurora F. De Luna; Dr. Gina R. Borje, School Head, Jesus F. Magsaysay High School Annex; and Ms. Jeanette U. Gambo, Admin Officer 2, Bangantalinga Elementary School.
Moreover, Dr. Borje expressed gratitude as they considered their school "lucky" to be of the recipient of IEC materials. They will rest assured that the school will use it to promote environmental awareness among students and teachers.

Project SAFE team visited the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Sta. Maria, Bulacan (PUP-SMB), and turned over IEC materials, September 12, 2022.
Dr. Marilyn F. Isip, Campus Director, expressed her interest in collaborating with Central Luzon State University when it comes to research and extension activities, upon knowing the team's purpose.
Dr. Isip also gratefully received the materials and immediately laid out her plans in utilizing the posters.
